Tucson, AZ – The World Hockey Association Hall of Fame, which honors the 1972-1979 major hockey league, is proud to announce the release of the new television film Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story. The dramatic film follows Howe and his comeback with the WHA Houston Aeros in 1973. The WHA Hall of Fame was hired and served as Technical Advisors for the production.

"We were delighted to share our expertise and intimate knowledge of the WHA with the production," says Timothy Gassen, president of the WHA Hall of Fame. A writer, director and producer himself, Gassen was able to give the production his filmmaker's perspective as well as the details to help make the historical film more believable.

WHA Hall of Fame partner Jack Stanfield also assited the production, and since he played on the 1973 WHA Aeros team depicted in the film, he also had unique insights. "I sat in between Gordie's sons Mark and Marty Howe in the locker room," Stanfield says. "Winning the WHA championship that year with all three Howes is something that is unforgettable."

Former WHA New England Whalers owner Howard Baldwin was one of the producers on the film. "Becasue Howard Baldwin was involved, we wanted to be involved," continues Gassen. "His passion for the WHA and the Howe family is obvious, and it was through years of Howard's determination that the film was finally made."

The WHA game sequences for the film were shot in Winnipeg (home of the former WHA Winnipeg Jets), and the actual WHA AVCO World Trophy was used in the championship scenes, courtesy of the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.

Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story debuts in Canada on Sunday, April 28 at 8 pm on CBC Television; in the US on Saturday, May 4 at 8 pm on the Hallmark Channel. Home video release on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc will follow shortly.
